Don Morell Olsen, 68, passed away on Dec. 21, 1998, at the Utah Valley Regional Medical Center from complications due to heart conditions and diabetes.
He was born Oct. 8, 1930 in Provo and was the fourth son of Earnest Wilford and Mary Telitha Winters Olsen. He lived in Pleasant Grove all his life, except for the time spent in the military.
He married Delia Darlene Bezzant on Jan. 23, 1949 and the marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple six years later. Don was a veteran of the Korean War, having served as a Military Policeman in Japan during 1952 and 1953. Upon returning, Don worked at Geneva Steel as a crane operator from 1953 until his retirement in 1986, after 33 years of service. He then worked for Hansen Metalworking and Giraffics. each for a couple of years. Don loved the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing, camping, and traveling to scenic places.
He loved working with tools and was an avid model train fan. He was an active member of the LDS Church, living in the Pleasant Grove, Grove Ward. He was a High Priest and served in various clerk positions in the Bishopric.
He is survived by his wife, Darlene; a daughter, Karen Olsen Maynard, a son, Robert Olsen, Karen's daughter, Shelby Maynard, all of Salt Lake. They were the love of his life, and he was a great husband, father, and grandfather to them. He is survived by one brother, Verlyn Olsen, of Pleasant Grove.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers. He will be sorely missed for the love, care, and devotion he showed to everyone.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Dec. 24, 1998 at 1 1:00 a.m. in the Pleasant Grove, Grove Ward Chapel, 455 East 200 South, Pleasant Grove. Friends may call Wednesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Olpin Family Mortuary, 500 South 300 East, Pleasant Grove and at the church on Thursday one hour prior to services. Burial will be in the Pleasant Grove City Cemetery. Military Rites will be conducted by the Utah National Guard.
