Fred E. Blair, 82, died at 2:55 p.m. at Mt Carmel Medical Center. He had been ill for several weeks and a patient of the medical center for five weeks.
He was born Jan 4, 1905 in Clayton, Deleware to Porter McClanahan & Mary Isabelle (Carey) Blair. He was one of a set of fraternal twins, with Edward being the other twin. He came to Pittsburg with his family at the age of four, lived here all of his life and attended Pittsburg schools.
Mr Blair was employed by the Kansas City Southern Railroad yards in 1922 for 10 years, then worked for the Apex Coal Company from 1938 to 1960. He also worked in the maintenance department at Pittsburg State University, Hughes Hall until May 1970, when he retired.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Golden Rails, and Local 14 of the United Mine Workers of America.
He married Evelyn Fay Cooper on January 31, 1931 in Girard, Kansas. She survives.
Additional survivors are two daughters; Carolyn Walker of Kinsley, Kansas and Sandra Oxford of Bloomfield, New Mexico; one brother, Edward Blair of St. Louis, Missouri; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; nine brothers and sisters.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Gary Schrag officiating. Burial will be in Mt Olive Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the Brenner Chapel
