At age 18 he joined the Confederate Army of North Carolina for a 3 year enlistment on March 7, 1862.
He served with Company F, 46th Regiment, North Carolina Troops.
After his 3-year enlistment ended, on March 25th, 1865, he became a Rebel Deserter surrendering to the Union Army and took an oath of transfer. He was taken to Clay Co. Indiana.
When the war ended on May 26, 1865, he remained in Indiana, married, and raised a family.
He is buried not far from his first wife Mary Linthicum Condor. They were married on January 24th, 1867, they had four known children. After her death, he married his second wife Rosetta Lake Vaught, she was a widow with a 5-year-old son and a 3-year-old son, they had three additional children. She is buried in Lucas Cemetery near her first husband.
