William Howard is the son of Mary Fike (1849-1916) and Phineas Miller (1825-1906).

William Howard married Sarah Beeghly on 26 February 1882 in Garrett County, Maryland.

The couple had thirteen children, including their eldest, my Grandmother, Ada May Miller Gates.

1883-1885 ~ William and Sarah were living in Accident, Garrett County, Maryland when Ada May was born in 1883 and their second child, Harvey Earnest, born in 1884.

1885 ~ By September 1885, their third child Milton Earl, was born in Eglon, Preston, West Virginia.

1887-1901 ~ The younger children, Roy Clell, George Aaron, Mary Catherine, John Alvin, Ora William, Elmie Florence, Edgar Jay, Effie Dayne and Lola Delta, were all born in Sabetha, Nemaha, Kansas.

1906 ~ The youngest child, Oretha Sarah, was born in Beattie, Marshall County, Kansas.

Tragically, three of their young children died in 1894. Mary Catherine died of Diptheria on January 24, 1894 (age 3 years, 5 months, 22 days), only two days later, infant Ora William died also of Diptheria on January 26, 1894 (age 2 months, 22 days).

At the end of that year, John Alvin, died of Scarlet Fever on December 12, 1894 (age 2 years 9 months).

There is one stone to mark these three little children: Mary Catherine, Ora William and John Alvin. They are buried at the Rock Creek Church of the Brethren Cemetery, along with their parents, Sarah Beeghly and William Howard Miller.
