Lifelong Karnes City, Texas, resident Louis E. Manka entered into rest Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2007, in the Connally Memorial Medical Center in Floresville at the age of 90 years, 10 months, and 3 days.

He was born April 10, 1916, in Falls City. Louis married Joyce Roemer on April 30, 1983, in Karnes City.

A general store merchant at various locations in Karnes County since the age of 16, Louis was also a farmer and rancher all his life. He served as the caretaker of the Panna Maria Cemetery for more than 43 years and was a Karnes County commissioner for more than 20 years.

Louis was a member of the Holy Name Society and Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Panna Maria.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis B. and Mary Esparza Manka; a sister, Irene Kunz; brother Daniel Manka; and his first wife, Elizabeth Dugi Manka.

His wife, Joyce Roemer Manka of Panna Maria, survives him. Also surviving him are a son, Leroy Manka and wife Carolyn of Conroe; daughter Mary Lee Krawietz and husband Richard J. of San Antonio; stepchildren George Piskor of Corpus Christi and John Piskor of Three Rivers; a brother, Emil Manka of Alice; a sister, Rose Ehlers of Floresville; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

A rosary was recited Friday, Feb. 16, at 7 p.m. in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Panna Maria.

A funeral Mass was officiated by Father Adrian Adamik and concelebrated by Father Wojciech Reisch and Father John Matocha in the church on Saturday at 10 a.m.

Burial followed in the Panna Maria Cemetery in Panna Maria.

Serving as pallbearers were Colton Krawietz, Richard L. Krawietz, Thomas Krawietz, William L. Krawietz, Bryan Manka, David Manka, and Emil Manka Jr., with Teresa A. Krawietz as an honorary pallbearer.
