MR. GILBERT ALFORD DIES
As we pin these lines our eyes are rivers of tears and our
soul is fraught with poignant woe. A gentle luminous star that shone more lustrous than all the stars around him, has fallen. Mr. Gilbert Alford--Gilbert, the gentle, the kind is dead.
In this the dark hour of our sorrow, we have the sweet consolation of knowing that the kind Gilbert, too good for the harsh blasts and tempests of earth, is now where tears never fall, where the sigh is never heard, where the
footfalls of death never echo on the jasper streets. We can only hope in the uncertain future, when we too, have crossed the waters of the river of death, we can meet him there--there where the chorus swells forever and snowy pinions fan the perfumed air.
Mr. Alford died Sunday at 4:30 a. m., and was buried Sunday afternoon at Tennesse. Revs. R. E. Bass, S. P. Johnson, and C. H. Doak held the funeral service.
Mr. Alford is survived by his wife, Mrs. Sudie Alford, and
four children, Noble, Buel, Mrs. P. M. Gunter and Mrs.
Linward Green, all of Tenaha; three brothers, Jay, Joe of
Tenaha, Charlie of Roganville, one sister, Mrs. Joe Jordan
and step-mother, Mrs. Georgia Alford.
