Altha Mae Scott, the daughter of William E. Hurd and Estella Smith, was born December 27, 1919 in Houston, Texas where she lived for eight years before she was adopted by William and Hulda Sheffield and moved to Seguin, Guadalupe County, Texas. Altha Mae was a faithful and energetic person from her youth. She had a very solid Christian upbringing and was baptized by her uncle, Rev. J. H. Sheffield at the age of 12.

She attended elementary and high school in Seguin, where she graduated in 1937. She later attended Prairie View A. M. College and completed her Vocational certification in Home Economics. In December of 1938, she moved to San Antonio, Texas where she lived with her brother and his wife, Stafford and Elva Sheffield.

She was fully saved and baptized with the Holy Ghost in 1944 under Elder H. L. Marien in Corpus Christi, Texas, and later became a member of the Old Blue Bonnet Church of God in Christ (which later became Childress Memorial Church of God in Christ) under the later Elder E. D. Childress in San Antonio, TX. In 1962 Altha Mae, fondly called and known as Mother Scott, became a licensed Evangelist Missionary and served as President of the Local and District Missionary Board, Sunday School and Y.P.W.W. teacher.

In addition to her years of ministry in the church, she was active with the P.T.A. and Special Olympics of the city. She received many awards, acknowledgements, and certificates of appreciation for her faithful service in the church and local community.

Altha Mae passed away on September 5, 1987 at 12:50 AM at the Baptist Memorial Hospital from Cardiovascular Disease, resulting from Pancreatic Carcinoma.
