Lyle Raymond "Butch" Carey, 59, of Tomah, Wisconsin, passed away on Friday, Nov. 7, 2003, at his home near Tomah, WI. He was born June 8, 1944, at home in rural Camp Douglas, WI. On August 2, 1962, at the Methodist Church in Tomah, he was united in marriage to Jacqueline Jean Gebczyk, ending in divorce. Was united in marriage to Judy.

Ray attended Tomah High School. Following high school, he moved to Belvidere, Illinois, where he worked for Chrysler for 24 years before retiring in 1990. He then moved back to the Tomah area and managed the Dilligaf Tavern in Oakdale until 2002. He enjoyed hunting and collecting guns. He also loved supplying family and friends with vegetables from his garden.

He is survived by his wife, Judy Carey of Tomah, WI; his father, Charles "Bud" Peterson; children, Monida (Lance) Grettilat, Janie (Greg) Burrow, Lisa (Larry) Farel, Dan Carey, Doug Carey and Joey Horner; siblings, Robert "Moe" (Bonnie) Peterson, Judy (Victor) Wilson, Bonnie (Larry) Boniner, Mike (Judy) Peterson, Connie (Mike) Albert, Rodney (Leslie) Peterson, Dwayne Carey, Cale Carey, Patti Sampson and Sharon Kroll; a sister-in-law, Deborah Peterson; mother- and father-in-law, Joe and Ruth Crocker; and mother-in-law, Ruby Hatcher; an aunt, Dorothy (Leon) Buttchen; several grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Alma Peterson, and a brother, Ron Peterson.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2003, at 6 p.m. at the Torkelson Funeral Home in Tomah, WI. Visitation was Tuesday from 4 p.m. until time of the service at the Torkelson Funeral Home. A private family burial will take place at a later date. The Torkelson Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
