The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Tobin C. Rote, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with 357th Infantry Regiment, 90th Division, A.E.F., near Fey-en-Haye, France, 12 September 1918. Lieutenant Rote displayed daring in rushing machine-gun emplacements in the path of his platoon. Single-handed he captured crews and emplacements of enemy machine guns.
