LYDIA SOPHIA KREUL
Lydia Sophia Kreul was born in Hickory Grove Township, Grant county, Wisconsin on Oct. 23, 1871. When two years of age she was deprived the loving tender care of her mother. It was then that she came to Cobb where she made her home with her aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Chris Fritsch. During the declining years of her foster parents, she lavished upon them all the kindness and loving care that any daughter might have bestowed. In early childhood she was baptized into the Lutheran church and on April 3, 1886 she renewed her Baptismal covenant through confirmation in the St. Peter's Lutheran church at Fennimore and she remained a faithful member to her church until the last. She aided in the organization of the First Sunday school of the Cobb Lutheran church and was a faithful, energetic teacher of the primary class for twenty years. She was also the first president of the Cobb Lutheran Ladies Aid and always displayed a keen interest in the welfare of the organization.
She was interested in the community and its betterment and was a brave faithful worker among the sick, during the influenza epidemic of 1918 sacrificing her own comfort and health in ministering to the sick and afflicted.
On April 1, 1920 she took charge of the Cobb Telephone central and proved an efficient operator as long as her health would permit. The deceased enjoyed good health up until several months ago when she was stricken with the malady that caused her death. She sought alleviation from her affliction in August entering a sanitarium at Savannah, Mo., She returned temporarily relieved and was confined to her bed only four weeks preceding her death. On Thursday morning she was removed to the St. Joseph's hospital where she passed away Thursday evening at the age of 56 years, 3 months, 21 days. The remains were rested at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George Fritsch, Sr. Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon at the Methodist church by Rev. R.F. Schedtler of Fennimore. Interment was made in the local cemetery.
She leaves to mourn her departure, two brothers - John Kreul of Fennimore and Henry Kreul of Laurens, Ia. and two sisters, Thecla (sic) Kreul of Fennimore and Anna Kreul of Laurens, Iowa and many other relatives and friends.
