Funeral services for Evelyn Meyer were held Tuesday, October 25, 2005, at 11:00 a.m. in Community Presbyterian Church at Postville, Iowa. The Reverend Gary Catterson officiated. The organist was Beverly Bacon. Casket Bearers were: Stanley Krambeer, James Panoch, Raymond Bollman, Mike Krambeer, Arvin Koopman, Jerry Krambeer. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery. The Schutte Funeral and Cremation Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements.

Evelyn Louise (Krambeer) Meyer was born March 23, 1917, on a farm in Clayton County, near Luana, Iowa. She was the daughter of Louis and Cora (Walter) Krambeer. She passed away Friday, October 21, 2005 in the Good Samaritan Center at Postville, Iowa, at the age of 88 years, six months, and 28 days.

She attended the Bailey School near her home. Evelyn worked in several homes during the 1940s, helping with the house work. She also worked in the telephone office as an operator.

On June 20, 1953 Evelyn was married to Dale Elmer ("Whitey," "Jack") Meyer at the home of her parents by the Reverend Walter T. Martin. To this union a son, Gem, was born. They worked in the hatchery along with "Whitey's" father for a time. In 1965 they opened a restaurant called "The Grill," which they operated for 25 years. They also opened the first coin-operated Laundromat in Postville.

Evelyn enjoyed her work in the restaurant where she could meet people. She also liked to play cards with her 500 club friends. She belonged to a bowling team and also liked to work crossword puzzles. Evelyn's pride and joy was her special dog, Hershey, who went everywhere with her when they traveled.

Evelyn was a member of the Community Presbyterian Church in Postville for more than 61 years.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, "Whitey" who died May 28, 2001, two sisters, Helen and husband, Lawrence Bollman, and Ellen and husband, Gary Koopman, three brothers, Lawrence and wife, Olga Krambeer, Arno and wife, Helen Krambeer, and Elmer Krambeer, and a brother-in-law, Dean and wife Eileen Meyer.

Surviving are her son, Gem (Michelle) Meyer, Kill Devil Hills, NC, a granddaughter, Hannah Meyer, two sisters-in-law, Rosalyn Krambeer, Postville, IA, and Jane Ann (Joseph) Panoch, rural, Castalia, IA, and many nieces and nephews.
