He worked in the Cordova and Jasper area for many years as an electrician and appliance repairman. His business, Abel Electric, was located on 19th Street in Jasper for many years. He was known for being an honest businessman and his love of people as he seemed to never meet a stranger.
He was preceded in death by his son, Terry Mitchell Abel; parents, Hugh and Velma Langley Abel; former wife, Mildred Shubert Abel; and brother-in-law, Bruce Randolph.
He is survived by his children, Larry Abel (Fay), Debra Abel Gravlee (Glendon), and Joe Abel (Teresa); grandchildren, Amber Abel (Shane), Shanna Gravlee Cleveland (John), Lisa Gravlee Patrick (Jeffery), Josh Abel, Jacob Abel, Wendy Abel Bryant (Todd), Daniel Smith (Barbara), Eddie Smith and Jimmy Fogle; sisters, Jean Powell (John), Laura Randolph, Martha Jones (Danny); brothers, Buddy Abel (Marlene), Howard Abel (Violet), Jimmy Abel (Ann) and Freddy Abel (Lura); eight great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews
