Harold Davis Alexius of Wilmington died March 26, 2009. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Margaret Bellamy Alexius. Mr. Alexius, the son of John Nelson Alexius and Mabel Davis Alexius, was born on October 30, 1919, in Norfolk, Virginia.

In addition to his wife, he is survived be two daughters, Preston Alexius Crow and Margaret Alexius Phillips and her husband David Bradford Phillips and four grandchildren. His grandsons are Harold Alexius Crow of Wilmington, William McDaniel Greene and his wife Sydnor of Raleigh, N.C., Randolph Wilson Crow, Jr. of Raleigh, NC, and David Bradford Phillips, Jr. of Wilmington. He is also survived by his sister Catherine Alexius Emerson, and his sister-in-law Frances Alexius Fuchs. He was predeceased by his twin brother, John Nelson Alexius, Jr.

Mr. Alexius graduated from Marion Military Institute in Marion, Alabama and attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He served in World War II in the infantry of the U.S. Army, where he was captured at the Battle of the Bulge. In business he was Vice-President of Atlantic Tobacco Co. Mr. Alexius served on the boards of the Babies Hospital, the Surf Club, the German L'Ariosa Dance Club, and Oakdale Cemetery.

He was a lifelong member of St. James Church. He also was a member of Cape Fear Country Club, the Surf Club, the Cape Fear Club, and the Carolina Yacht Club.
