__Fred R. Averill, 72, member of the Iowa National Guard for 25 years and longtime building superintendent at the National Guard training center, was found dead in his quarters there Monday morning.
__Born in Albert Lea, Minn., June 17, 1881, Averill was brought to Cedar Rapids as a child.
__After a long association with the guard, part of the time as a unit caretaker, Mr. Averill resigned to become building superintendent for the guard's training center, a position he has held for the last 14 years.
__Surviving are three sons, B. R. Averill, Cedar Rapids; Paul F. Averill, Vallejo, Calif., and Eugene C. Averill, Van Nuys, Calif.; two daughters, Mrs. Ruth Curl, Van Nuys; Mrs. Grant Y. Lockhart, Burbank, and eight grandchildren.
__Funeral services will be held at the Turner chapel at a time to be announced later. Friends may call at the chapel after 1 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be at Linwood cemetery.
