Myron descends from the Colonial line of William Stratton of Winsor, CT. A first generation American, William died in Oct. 1709 during his service in Queen Anne's War. His son Serajah also died in service during the French and Indian War on July 30, 1758.
Martin born in 1730 in Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT was rewarded for his service in the Revolutionary War with a land grant in Pennsylvania. His son Cephas born May 13, 1769 went with his family to Bradford Co., PA where he owned and operated a saw and gristmill. The family moved to Cumminsville, Hamilton Co., Ohio in 1818 and moved to Jeffersonville, Clark Co., Indiana in 1835.
Myron married Mary Halstead who gave birth to 12 children in 23 years and buried 7 of them as infants or young children. When her daughter Diantha Jane died unmarried at the age of 26 on March 10, 1865, Mary collapsed under the strain and died in November of the same year at age 45.
Myron and Mary's 6th child born July 22, 1848 was the famous gold mine millionaire of the Colorado Rockies, Winfield Scott Stratton.
