Johan George was baptized in the Altalaha Lutheran Church in Rehersburg, Berks county, PA. Sponsors were George Emmert and wife. He was baptized by the Rev. Christopher Emmanuel Schultz, pastor from 1771-1809. According to Hoffman Family Historian Myra Marks in 1991, George and Rebecca lived on a farm in Berrysburg, and were congregants at St. John's. They were also very good friends of the Hellers, who founded the town of Berrysburg. Extensive research was done by Myra Marks in the early 1980's. She speculated that Johan George and his wife moved into Lykens Valley at the turn of the 19th century, from neighboring Berks county. In the early 1980s Myra transcribed what was written on the tombstones in Old German. (Since then the tombstones have been repaired and the German script has been cemented together, making it impossible to read). The tombstone inscription noted that he lived with his wife 35 years, had (4) sons and (5) daughters. He died at age 57 years, less 13 days. Myra noted that he died from a condition known as "Leber Entzundung?", but I don't know if this was written on the tombstone. Johan George wrote his will on Feb. 18, 1824, which can be found in the Dauphin County Courthouse, Harrisburg.
