WILLIAM WHALEN 55, DIES FRIDAY Pneumonia given as cause for death of well known Grocer.

William C. Whalen 55, of 229 North Sheridan Ave. died at 8:30 p.m. Friday at St. Joseph's Hospital of pneumonia. Mr. Whalen was associated with Gibbons Grocery store at 911 Church Street, and had lived here all of his life.

Mr. Whalen had entered the St. Joseph Hospital Dec. 22, suffering from acid burns in the mouth and throat.

He was born in Ottumwa April 28, 1880 in Ottumwa. He was a member of Maccabees, Tent No. 18 Ottumwa and St. Patrick's Catholic Church.

Surviving are his wife Mary Ann Whalen; four sons; Thomas, John, Farrell, and William C. Whalen; and one sister Mrs. Frank Lewis; all of Ottumwa.

His parents, two brothers, and one daughter preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 8:30 a.m. at the residence, and at St. Patrick's Church at 9:00 o'clock.Requiem High Mass will be celebrated by The Rev. B.J. Decker. Burial will be made in Calvary Cemetery.

Baptised Apr 28, 1880 at St. Mary's; son of William Whalen & Catherine McGlothen. Godparents were James Barber & Mary Barry. Father John Kreckel officiated the baptism.
