Opal was the first born of Albert and Mamie May Gibson, in Senath, Missouri; July, 15th 1902. Opal was orphaned at an early age. She and her sister, Aline, were raised by their grandparents, Henry and Elnora Ray May.

On December 19, 1919 she married Anson Morgan Courter Sr. in Dunklin, Missouri. They had three children; Bettie Lou, Anson Jr., and Bonnie J.

Anson and Opal moved to St. Clair Shores, Michigan where Anson passed in 1864. Opal eventually moved back to Senath and lived with her sister, Aline for some time. Ultimately, Opal moved to Leesburg, Florida where she passed away, just shy of 99 years of age.

She was laid to rest next to her son, in Lone Oak Cemetery in Leesburg, Florida.
