Betty Jean Bunch died on Sept. 11, 2008, in Olathe, Kan, after a long illness.

Betty was born to Ernie and Ruby Carter, east of Anderson, Mo, on Nov. 12, 1927. There she lived near Cook's Store and close to her maternal and paternal grandparents, Tom and Annie Carter and John and Belle Lamb. She attended elementary school at Puckett before moving to Granby, where she graduated from Granby High School.

Betty was previously married to Howard Cox. They had three children, Kerri Lynette Marsh, Lana Jo Martin and Kelli Jane Landry, all of who survived. Betty has five grandchildren, Paul Marsh, of Olathe, Ashley Cherafat, Overland Park, Kan, Mendel Martin, Kansas City, Mo, Auston Landry, US Navy stationed in Hawaii, and Amber Landry, Collinsville, Ill. Betty has seven great-grandchildren, Ben Marsh, Wil Marsh, Marina Cherafat, Sophia Cherafat, Hudson Cherafat, Drake Landry, and Danelle Landry. Other family members who survive are two brothers and their wives, Jerry and Judy Carter and Max and Ruth Carter, of Granby; two sisters and their husbands, Jacqueline and Richard Camerer, of Granby, and Sue and Mike James, of Branson; and two aunts, Nadine Spears, of Anderson, and Imojene Long, of Salinas, Calif. Also surviving are many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

The family lived in Joplin and Monterey, Calif, where Betty worked for Bell Telephone Company. She was also self-employed as a beautician, operating a beauty shop in Joplin and in Granby. Betty married Ray Bunch and for the next 20 years, she and Kelly Jane traveled internationally with him in his work. They traveled to and lived in Australia, Thailand, the Philippines, Vietnam, and Guam. They retired in 1995. Ray preceded her in death.

Betty wished that upon her death, her body be cremated. A memorial service will be held Sept. 27, at 10 am at the First Baptist Church in Granby. RJ Savage will officiate. Published in The Joplin Globe from 9/23/2008 - 9/25/2008
