His teaching and coaching career began at Highland Schools, moving to Lodi, and later to Black River, where he served as the first administrator following the districts consolidation. He retired in 1980 as principal of Lodi Elementary.
He was a member of Lodi United Methodist Church, Harrisville Lodge 137 F&AM and was a 32nd degree mason. He was also a member of the Retired Teachers Association of Medina County, Ohio Education Association.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Lois (Indoe) Bangert; children, Pam (Bill) Bauman of Litchfield, Ken (Karen) Bangert of Cincinnati, Mike (Becky) Bangert of Homerville and Bruce Bangert of San Francisco, Calif.; grandchildren, Kristin Dyke, Ben Bauman, Stephanie Tate, Kevin, Leah and Tessa Bangert; and great-grandchildren, Madison and Brayden Bauman and Travis Dyke.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, George and Herman "Bud" Bangert.
