Joseph Marchand was the second child of Joseph F. and Catherine (Pierson) Marchand. He was born October 31, 1850 and died September 20, 1916. His parents picture hangs in the Jackson library. He had political ambitions and became the health officer in Jackson Township around 1899 and was appointed by President Cleveland as postmaster of Marchand, Ohio on April 23, 1900. Joseph had 4 sisters and 6 brothers. He and his wife, Catherine Kuntzman had 2 daughters and 3 sons.
