Hudson G. Hester was the 15th. child of William "Buck" and Amy Malone Hester. Married Catherine O. Thorn. 4 known boys were born to this union.
Hudson G. enlisted in the Confererate Army on Dec. 21, 1861 in Cherokee, AL He was a member of Co. H 1st. Cav.
ON his CSA Army foot marker, it has his army unit:: Co. L
4th. Regt. Roddey's Cav. AL
The Civil War ended April 1865, not sure where he was discharged at. He contacted Smallpox, and after being discharged, not sure when he arrived home, he was forced to stand at a distance from his house, only to look and talk to his family for a short while. Evidently, he had contact with his wife Catherine, for a son born July 1866.
It was said, "that he and Mr. James lived in an old house, and when they died the house was burned".
He is buried in Hester-James cemetery # 4 near Mt. Zion Church near Russellville, AL. His grave is enclosed with a pretty white Wrought Iron Fence.
Andrew Jackson "Jack" James, who also contacted smallpox, died about the same time and is also buried near Hudson's grave, enclosed in a white fence, same as Hudson's.
