Sylvia was the daughter of Clayton Henry Brown, formerly known as Henry Clayton Gumley, and Daisy Belle Kendall. She was preceeded in death by siblings Letha May Brown Oldham, Roy Brown, Earl Franklin Brown, Ada Belle Brown Hopson and Florence Irene Brown Cornelius. She was survived by brother Leslie Guy Brown, husband Lawrence Henry Fieth and her children.
