James Edwin "Jim" Cannon, 80, of Hixson died Sept. 10, 2008, at Life Care Center of East Ridge in Hixson. He was a former resident of this area. Services will be 1 pm Saturday at Lone Oak Church of Christ in Paducah, Ky, with Dr. Ed Grogan and David Cannon and Tom Warren officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery in Dukedom. Friends may call at Lone Oak Church of Christ from 11 am-1 pm Saturday.
Hornbeak Funeral Home in Fulton is in charge of local arrangements.

The family requests that memorials be made to Clear Creek Church of Christ building fund, 5612 Hixson Pike, Hixson, TN 37343 or Western Kentucky Youth Camp, 301 Youth Camp Road, Marion, KY 42064.

He was born Sept. 29, 1927, in Fulton County, Ky, son of the late William Adair and Murgeon (Colley) Cannon. He was married to the former Hazel Marie "Cookie" Cook, who survives, for 60 years and was a retired minister of the Church of Christ. He had served for 45 years before retiring in 1992, with 31 years spent at Lone Oak Church of Christ in Kentucky. He had also served congregations in Owensboro, Ky, and at Northside Church of Christ in Mayfield, Ky.

He was a US Navy veteran and was one of the founders of the West Kentucky Youth Camp in Marion. He had held several gospel meetings and had been the featured speaker in Bertesgarten, Germany, and at several Christian colleges and universities. He was also instrumental in the founding of the Christian Student Center at Murray State University in Kentucky.

Survivors also include his son and daughter-in-law, Phil E. and Jana Cannon of Chattanooga; and two grandchildren, Caleb Jamison Cannon and Kidron Jude Cannon, both of Chattanooga. He was also preceded in death by his brother, William Adair "Bill" Cannon.
