Charles "Pappy" Vernon (C. V.) Jones, 78, of Martin, died Friday, Sept. 12 2008, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital in Jackson. Services were held 1 pm Monday at New Home Baptist Church, with Bro. Scott Chadwick officiating. Burial was in Sunset Cemetery, Dresden. Murphy Funeral Home of Martin was in charge of arrangements. Mike Pollard, Chad Collier, Chris Turnbow, Jeff Stockton, Stephen Stockton, Jeremiah Jones, Zach Turnbow, and Logan Pollard served as pallbearers.
Mr. Jones was born June 2, 1930, in Augustus, Ark, son of the late Jessie and Mary Clark Jones. He was a US Army veteran, a retired machinist from Ringier Corp, and a member of New Home Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Reeves Jones of Martin; four sons, Jim (Mary) Judkins of Churchill, Ray (Cindy) Jones of Crosby, Minn, Kenny (Veronica) Turnbow and Bobby Turnbow, both of Martin; two daughters, Susan Pollard and Barbara (Chuck) Collier, both of Martin; two sisters, Mary (Bill) Barner of Sharon and Viola (Jimmy) Sampson of Dresden; one half brother, Carl Gallimore Jr. of Dresden; 20 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by one son, Michael Jones; three brothers, Arthur Jones, Tommy Jones, and Joe Jones; two sisters, Mable Watson and Martha Cannon; and one half sister, Artricia Campbell.
