Obituary in "The Newport (Washington) Miner," Nov. 16, 1922. Headline "Was Pioneer Resident of the County."

"At her home in Usk Sunday night occurred the death of Mrs. Charlotte M. Covell, one of the earliest settlers in the Calispell Valley.

"Mrs. Covell was born July 22, 1833 in Kiantone, New York. She was the widow of Harrison Covell, a Civil War veteran. They came to this county to make their home in 1892, Mr. Covell preceding her in death about eight years ago. For several years Mrs. Covell had been bedfast from physical ailments but she remained cheerful and in full posession of mental faculties. She is survived by two sons, Julian L. and Lester L., and one daughter, Mrs. R. H. Danforth, all of whom reside in the Calispell valley.

"Funeral services were held at the Davis Chapel in Newport Tuesday, Rev. F.V. Hoyt of Usk, officiating."

NOTES: Charlotte (Moore) Covell was the daughter of Frederick and Sarah (Clark) Moore.

Newport Cemetery was originally IOOF (International Order of Odd Fellows) Cemetery.

Pend Oreille County was formed from Stevens County on March 1, 1911; thus this family's earlier records there refer to Stevens County.
