Death yesterday ended a 29 year career in the Jacksonville Fire Department for Ausburn W. Dopson, 52, who died in a local hospital following a brief illness. A native of Sanderson, he had been a resident of this city for 33 years and since October 1, 1933 had been third assistant chief in charge of Station #4 at Duval and Jefferson Streets. Chief Dopson lived at 214 West Twenty-Third Street. He leaves a widow, Mrs. Carrie L. Dopson, his mother, Mrs. Mary J. Dopson of Macclenny; three sons; Robert E, Ausburn W. Jr., and Thomas E. Dopson; two sisters, Mrs. P.L. Davis, Jacksonville, and Mrs. B.F. Jones, Macclenny, and five brothers, Ressie E and Johnnie Dopson of Jacksonville, Lonnie and Leon Dopson of Sanderson, and Herod Dopson of Macclenny. Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. tomorrow in the Memorial Chapel of the Seashole Funeral Parlors, with the Rev. Thomas Hansen, pastor of the Main St. Baptist Church officiating. The following members of the Fire Department will be active pallbearers: Harold Reed, Willis Reed, Arthur Varnes, Curtis Dunnaway, Claude Pickett, and Bert Peacock. Honorary pallbearers will be Chief W.Q. Dowling, Deputy Chief G.E. Hare, First Assistant Chief E.A. Terry, Second Assistant Chief, J.B. Chancey and the uniformed members of the Fire Department. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
