There is a discrepancy in his death date. The headstone and Watertown Township clerk's records show the year as 1912. However, his death certificate shows it as 1916. The clerk's office said their record does show "1916" written in, but the clerk could not say where the information came from or who put the notation in. The clerk did note that their records show only one Lesley Jewell being buried in the cemetery.
Records also show he served in the Civil War. He enlisted 7 Sep 1861 in Co H 15th Ohio Infantry and was honorably discharged due to disability on 26 Apr 1862. He re-enlisted 13 Aug 1863 in Co L, 1st Ohio Heavy Artillery and was again honorably discharged 25 Jul 1865.
He married Emily Wells abt 1868.
The death certificate shows he was born in Pennsylvania and his father is Jacob Jewell. A mother is not listed. Informant: Mrs Frank Loe
