Corbett Meeks retired from the US Army as a Master Sergeant after more than 29 years of service.

Among the medals he earned during his service: the Distinguished Service Cross, Silver Star, French Croix de Guerre, Verdun Medal, World War Campaign Medal, Mexican Campaign Medal, Mexican Border Medal, Distinguished Marksman Medal, Indiana State pistol champion in 1928-29, the first Gold Award of the American Legion in 1928, high-powered rifle champion of the Philippines Islands in 1926, the second Silver Wynans Trophy, and pistol champion of match at Camp Perry, Ohio.

As a First Sergeant during World War I, he served in Company H, 11th Infantry, 5th Division.

His Distinguished Service Cross citation reads as follows:
The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to First Sergeant Corbett Meeks (ASN: 737376), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company H, 11th Infantry Regiment, 5th Division, A.E.F., near Cunel, France, 21 October 1918. During a counterattack, First Sergeant Meeks advanced alone over open country, under heavy machine-gun fire, to a sniping point, and by his efficient resistance, greatly aided in the breaking up of the counterattack.
