The son of Jabez and Sarah "Sally" (Watrous) Whipple, Timothy was born in what is now Ledyard, at that time considered the North Society and a part of Groton; he was the oldest of eleven children.
He married Lucy Ann Geer, the daughter of Thomas Geer and first wife Hannah (Whipple) Geer.
Children, all born at Ledyard: Timothy, Lucy Ann, unnamed infant, Ida, Nellie P, Timothy Thomas, Asher Avery, Silas S, Annie, Samuel Austin, Thomas Geer, and Christine Violet.
Occupation: stone mason
