Francis Boyd Winans, 80, of Apt. 408, Hotel Jamestown Apartments, died at 9:35 a.m. Saturday (Dec. 10, 1983) in his home. He was the husband of Esther Hall Winans.

Born May 13, 1903, in Kellettville, Pa., the son of Boyd A. and Minerva Zendel Winans, he had been an area resident since 1920. Winans had also lived in Lakewood and Kimball Stand.

He was a former employee of Marlin Rockwell Corp., Division of TRW, and had also been a custodian at Celoron Elementary School. In earlier years, he had been a professional boxer, fighting under the name of Frankie Boyd.

Winans had attended Bethel Lutheran Church and was a charter member of Marlin Rockwell Local 338, United Auto Workers.

Surviving, besides his wife, are two sons: Leslie F. Winans of Celoron and Boyd A. Winans of Satellite Beach, Fla.; two granddaughters: Wendy Campbell of Eau Gallie, Fla. and Diane E. Peterson of Busti; six grandsons: Steven A. Winans of St. Petersburg Fla., Randall B. Winans of Vero Beach Fla., Dana Winans of Satellite Beach, David B. Winans of Falconer, Donald E. and Richard L. Winans of Celoron, five great-grandchildren, and a sister Ruby Fox of Jamestown.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Eva Andrus Winans; a daughter, Susan Eileen Campbell; three sisters Grace Zendell, Florence Quinn and Armeda Straun, and two brothers: Gordon and Vincent Winans.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Powers Funeral Home. The Rev. Charles H. Gustafson, pastor of Bethel Lutheran Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery.

Friends will be received by the family from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.
