John Edwin Carter, third son of Attorney and Mrs. W.F. Carter, died at the home of his parents in this city Friday morning after an illness of about two weeks.

Mr. Carter was a young man of unusually fine character, with a high sense of honor and an unquestioned integrity, a member of the Presbyterian church, and was associated with his father in the practice of law, as well as prosecuting attorney in the local Recorder's Court.

He was a graduate of Davidson college and an alumnus of the law school of the University of North Carolina and was about thirty years of age.

He answered the country's call in the late war serving as lieutenant in France and after his return was made a major in Governor Morrison's Military Staff.

Last October he was wedded to Miss Anne Corrine Fulton of Walnut Cove, and a few short weeks ago they purchased and fitted up a home on Elm Street and had only been housekeeping about two weeks when he became ill.

He was moved to his father's home and surrounded by every effort known to modern medical science but the disease, acute diabetes, would not yield to treatment and this splendid young life was ended in the home of his youth.

The activities of this town were suspended at 2 pm Saturday when a tender and fitting funeral service was held in the Presbyterian Church.

Beside the widow he is survived by his parents, six brothers, J.H., Frank, Cecil, Walter, William and Archie and one sister Mrs. J.H. McSween of Timmonsville, SC.
