TRUCK-AUTO ACCIDENT TAKES WOMAN'S LIFE!
Juanita Miller Killed Instantly When Sand Truck Hits Rear of Plymouth Car in Which She is Passenger
A tragic accident occurred at about 5:30 Friday evening near the southwest corner of the city limits of Frankfort, when a young woman was killed instantly. A large gravel truck rammed the rear of a passenger car a short distance south of the twin bridges.
Juanita Miller, age 33 years who was riding in a passenger car, driven by V. D. McChesney, was the woman killed in the accident, and Ralph Atkins of Irving was driver of the truck.
Mr. McChesney, driver of the auto, received head injuries and lacerations and Barbara Black, age 8, another passenger in the car received minor injuries.
Those riding in the passenger care were on theri way to the family home of Mrs. Cora Miller, mother of Juanita., when the accident occurred. Atkins was on his way back to Blue Rapids, with his empty truck after having delivered a load of gravel to a point northeast of Frankfort to be used for highway purposes.
The occurrence of the tragedy is pieced together shomwhat as follows, as no eye-witnesses can be intervied: Juanita Miller and her daughter, Barbara lived in an apartment in Frankfort and while Barbara attended the grade school, her mother was engaged in housework in a number of Frankfort homes. It was the usual custom on Friday evening for Mr. McChesney to drive to town and take Juanita and BArbsra out to their home about three and one-half miles southwest of Frankfort to spend the weekend.
They were on their way to the miller home when the truck apparently traveling at a high rate of speed struck the rear of the McChesney car. One report is that another Stryker truck was directly ahead of the one driven by Atkins, which might have prevented a clear view and caused Atkins to becoem serious confused when the lead truck pulled out to pass the passenger car.
The Sheriff's office and local police state that the truck pushed the auto on up the highway a distance of 165 feet after the impact. The sudden impace is said to have broken Juanita's neck as the rear seat of the car was driven up against the front seat. Barbara riding on the lap of her mother, received head lacerations.
Juanita was a graduate of the Frankfort high school and had many fiends in this community who are grieved at the news of her untimely death.
Juanita's father, the late Golden Miller passed away in 1921.
Besides her mother , Mrs. Cora Miller; one brother, William Miller, Frankfort and a number of other relatives who have the sympathy of all in their great sorrow.
Funeral services were held at the Padden Funeral Chapel on Monday afternoon and burial was in the Barrett Cemetery.
