Death Takes Ralph Goodhue

Ralph A. Goodhue, aged 59 years, well known Marietta business man who was proprietor of the Kelly News and Stationery Store at 294 Front Street, passed away at the family home, 424 Fifth Street at noon on Saturday following a serious illness that developed about a week ago.

Private funeral services were held at the Wieser and Cawley Funeral Home, 229 Fourth Street on Monday afternoon and commitment services that were also private were held in Oak Grove, with Rev. E. H. Townsend the minister.

Ralph Arthur Goodhue was a son of the late Archibald J. Goodhue and of Mrs. Margaret Reynolds Goodhue who lives on the Goodhue home farm a short distance above Clarington. He was born on January 5, 1877. He was graduated from Marietta College in the class of 1899. In his earlier business career, he was associated with his father in the livestock commission business in Wheeling, W. Va. as a member of the firm Goodhue and Reynolds. After the death of his father, he was associated with the company that was later the Wheeling Livestock Commission.

Mr. Goodhue came to Marietta to make his home for the remainder of his life, about 20 years ago when he purchased the Kelly News depot, which business he enlarged. He held his church affiliation with the First Methodist Church.

Mr. Goodhue was united in marriage on November 27, 1902, with Miss Clara Cisler, daughter of the late Charles H. Cisler and of Mrs. Mary Blohm Cisler, who lives on the Cisler home farm east of Marietta. She survives with the three daughters, Mrs. Mary Goodhue Blair, wife of Dr. E.H. BLair of Chicago, Ill.; Mrs. Nancy Goodhue Meyer, wife of George L. Meyer of Pittsburgh, Pa.; and Miss Sarah Goodhue of the family home. His mother also survives and there are four brothers and sisters, A.R. Goodhue of Vandergrift, Pa.; Edwin Goodhue of Clarington; Mrs. S.T. Blattier and Miss Margaret Goodhue of Wheeling, W.Va. There is one grandson, Allan Goodhue Meyer.
