"FUNERAL SERVICES FOR MRS. CLARENCE KING HELD IN LEBANON NOVEMBER 25

Mrs. Clarence King, of Lebanon died on Sunday, November 23, in Wallace hospital, followoing a short illness. She was 75 years of age. She had suffered a heart attack on November 14, and the end came a little more than a week later.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon, at 2: o'clock, in the First Baptist Church, the pastor Dr. Bradley Allison officiating. Dr. allison's message was based on I Thessaloniams 4:13-19 and an obituary, prepared by Mrs. King's brother Col. D. O. Vernon, was read.

A solo, "I Won't Have to Cross Jordan Alone" was sung by Russell O'Dell and a quartet, composed of Mr. and Mrs. O'Dell, Miss Florence Clark and C. M. Carlisle, sang"The Old Rugged Cross" with Mrs. Lynn West as accompanist. The floral offerings were many and were exceptionally beautiful.

Interment was in Lebanon cemetery under direction of Palmer Funeral Home. Dr. Allison conducted the brief burial service and the pall bearers were Clyde, James and Glenn King, Clark Hooper, Floyd Tribble, and Claude Vernon. All were nephews except Mr. Hooper. Mr. and Mrs. Bert King and daughter, Mrs. Claude King, of Joplin came for the funeral.

Meade Ann Vernon was born August 9, 1877 and was a daughter of Joe M. Vernon and Prudence Hunter Vernon, pioneer residents. Her family came from Tennessee to Laclede County in 1844, before there was a Lebanon or a Lacleded county. The Vernon family went to Cole County to reside in 1874 and it was while they were living there that their daughter, Meade Ann Vernon, was born in 1877, the family returning to laclede County in 1880.

She was married to Clarence M. King Sept. 17, 1902, and most of their married life was spent in or near Lebanon, residing on Garfield avenue for many years. In her youth, Mrs. King became a member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church, in Blackfoot, a church her father had helped to organize. She later became affiliated with the First baptist Church in Lebanon. She was a long time member of the Lebanon Rebakah Lodge, and she was greatly beloved by all who came in touch with her life.

She is survived by her husband, one daughter, Mrs. Roscoe Collier, and a son, Ray King, and two grandchildren, Peggy Rae King and Helen Louise Collier. Two brothers also survive her, Col. Don O. Vernon and Newt Vernon of the Blackfoot neghborhood."
