Death Take Grandfather After Girl's Funeral

Winfield Mead, 84, died suddenly at his home in Arkville early Thursday morning last week, a few hours after the funeral of his granddaughter, Gloria Roberts.
Funeral services for Mr. Mead were held Saturday afternoon at the Herrick funeral home in Margaretville. Rev. Eugene Crabb officiated. Burial was at the Kelly Corner cemetery.
Mr. Mead is survived by one son, Charles Mead of Oneonta, three daughters, Mrs. Pauline Shanful of Pearl River, Mrs. Gladys Roberts and Mrs. Julia McLaughlin of Arkville, 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Mr. Mead was Born Aug. 1873. He was the son of the late Albert and Melissa Knickerbocker Mead.
He was the oldest member of the Arkville Fire department and a member of the Arkville Methodist church and the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. For 30 years he was a car inspector at Arkville for the Ulster and Delaware and New York Central railroad.
