Herb served in the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1952, stationed in Germany.
He taught school in Galva for 35 years. He built and maintained a community ice-skating rink in Galva's Wiley Park each winter for 36 years.
Along with his wife, Dori, Herb is survived by five sons, Richard (Teri), Dirk (Kathy), David (Kathy), Randall (Angie) and Robert.; two stepdaughters, Pam Hennessy and Caron Stratton; one stepson, Jeffrey Dunbar; 15 grandchildren; eight step grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; six step great-grandchildren; one sister, Lydia Gallup; one brother, Gerald; and his stepmother, Velma Rodgers.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Annale, and two brothers, Franklin and Kenneth Rodgers.
