Gertrude Burger b.1878
Raymond A. Burger b.1884
*** 3 SCOTT brothers in the CIVIL WAR ***
August 1862, Josephine's 3 older brothers, Orrin E., William A., and John A. Scott, enlist in Auburn, NY.// Walter was not able to enlist during the war since he was only the age of 13. Orrin was 21, William 18 and John 16.
No proof of age was required but legally should have been 18. Your age was taken upon your word and many under aged men had enlisted at 16 and 17.
*note: grave was erected along with her parents. The dates on the tombstome maybe incorrect. Please see her father's
F.A.G. memorial for more information. 2 different years provided as death date. 1888 and 1898.
Present grave marker gives 1888.
1958 - as transcribed from tombstones.
SCOTT, William 1815-1898
Joan his wife 1815-1892
Josephine 1859-1898 wife of J. P. BERGER
It was stated in her father's (William Scott) obituary that he was living with his daughter in the north county. The only daughter(s) could be still living are Amanda and Sarah, neither of whom I can locate or verify they are living. Considering the above tombstone transcriptions taken in 1958 that Josephine Scott Burger must have died before 1898 as Justus remarried in 1889. The last finding of Josephine's name on any census was in 1880.
