Jane Appel, 89, died peacefully on September 12, 2008 in her Indianapolis home surrounded by her family. She lived a full, rich life as a loving wife and mother, surviving three husbands, Arthur Lathrop (married 1941-70), Jack Thompson (married 1971-81) and Jack Appel (married 1983-1999). She amassed a large and devoted brood of children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Throughout her life she was recognized by her beautiful golf swing, which awarded her five hole-in-ones. She had a pioneering spirit, which led her to earn a twin-engine pilot's license in the 1940s. Known by many as "Lady Jane", she was blessed with a unique charm and style that dazzled both young and old alike. She was fortunate to have spent 81 years enjoying summers at Lake Maxinkuckee in Culver, Indiana, and 42 winters in Kona, Hawaii. Her 38 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and their countless friends affectionately addressed her as "Granny".

Jane is survived by her children Steve (Alma) Lathrop, Rae (Randy) Wilson, Sally Stephens, Julia Moses, Julie (Fritz) Steck, Jane (Chad) Stephens, John (Lannie) Thompson, Jean (John) Corey, Jim Bob (Susan) Thompson, John (Linda) Appel, Fred Appel and Steve (Claudia) Appel. Her parents Helen and Ray Adams, son Alan Lathrop and grandson Danny Lathrop preceded her in death.

She has been a committed supporter of Amani Children's Foundation, Feed the Children Foundation, Wheeler Mission and the Salvation Army. She was a member of The Church Within of Indianapolis and Unity Church of Kona-Kohala in Hawaii.
