Musician. He was the lead vocalist, and a founding member of the rhythm and blues musical group The Edsels. The Youngstown, Ohio, based group which also included Jimmy Reynolds, Marshall Sewell, Harry Green, and the late Larry Green formed in 1957 and are best known for the hit, "Rama Lama Ding Dong." The song which was originally written by Jones in 1958 landed at the Number 21 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1961 and would go onto become their biggest hit. During their career, the Edsels also performed regularly at the Apollo Theater in New York City and appeared on television programs including Dick Clark's "American Bandstand", and "Shindig." Among their other notable recordings are "What Brought Us Together", "Bone Shaker Joe", "Do You Love Me", "Could It Be", "Love Makes The World Go Round", and "Born In Mexico." They disbanded in 1963. Following the breakup of the group Jones toured and worked both as a songwriter and manager for the likes of Ray Charles, New Affair, The Winston Wall Trio, and The Jones Gospel Singers. He retired from music a few years before his death. He died at his home in Ohio from cancer.
