Walter W. Rhine, 78, retired Union Pacific Railroad machinist of 2105 Spruce St., died Monday at a local hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Daniels Funeral Home with Rev. Gordon Milldrum officiating. Burial follows in Hillcrest cemetery. Born in Nebraska, Mr. Rhine had lived in La Grande for 47 years. He was a member of the First Christian church, local Lodge 41, A.F.&A.M., Eastern Oregon Commandery No. 6, UP Old Timers, and a life member of the Oregon Dads.
Survivors are the widow, Mrs Mary Rhine [2nd wife, apparently], La Grande, three sons, Dale Rhine, Portland, Hollister Rhine, San Antonio, Tex., and Glen Davis, Portland; three daughters, Mrs. Marvel Teeters, McKenzie Bridge, Ore., Mrs. Claribel Wilson, The Dalles, and Mrs. Dorothy Brace, Bend; a sister, Mrs. Elsie Harold, North Bend; and 11 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
