October 5, 1927 - Emmetsburg - James Miles who was brought to the Palo Alto hospital Tuesday evening of last week, passed away Monday. The remains have been taken to Grant City, Iowa. The funeral will take place today. Services will be at the Methodist church at that place. The pastor. Rev. Honey, will officiate. The Brotherhood of the Modern Woodman of America will be in charge. The burial will be in the Grant City cemetery.
James Walter Miles was born at Kankakee, Dekalb county. Illinois, on October 25, 1864. He was rounding out his 63rd year. He was married at Grant City May 27, 1885 to Ida May Shearer. To this union 12 sons and daughters were born. Seven are living.
In 1914 Mr. and Mrs. Miles moved to this county. They made their home on a farm for some time. In 1922 they retired from farming and moved to this city, where they subsequently resided.
Mr Miles leaves to mourn his death his widow, 2 sons, & 5 daughters. The sons are John & Frank of Emmetsburg. The daughters are Mrs Nellie Greenland of Pioneer, Mrs Nettie Molison, Mrs Ella Lakey, Miss June Miles of Emmetsburg, Mrs Philips of Green, Iowa. Three brothers died a number of years ago.
