Dana T. Jennings
A retired cattleman who had lived in Emporia since 1969, Dana Thorp Jennings, died Nov. 5 at Newman Hospital. He was a breeder of registered Angus cattle for 23 years at Olpe before his retirement in 1963. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church, Topeka Lodge 17, A.F. and A.M., Veterans of World War I Barracks 111, and the Lyon County Mental Heath Association.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1:30 P.M. in the Westminster Church, conducted by the Rev. Carl J. Hahn. Military graveside services in Evergreen Cemetery will be conducted by members of Brinkman-Price Post 342, American Legion of Olpe.
Memorial contributions to the Westminster United Presbyterian Church may be sent in care of Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home.
Dana T. Jennings, son of Thorp Buttolf and Eliza Virginia Hacker was born on the Marydale Farm, four miles southwest of Lebo, Nov. 7, 1887. The family moved to Topeka and Mr. Jennings was graduated from Topeka High School. He was active in the Kansas National Guard and Boy Scouts of America. He was a Scout field executive in Kansas City, Mo., from 1926 to 1930 and was executive of the Lubbock, Tex., Boy Scout Council from 1930 to 1934.
Mr. Jennings married Mary Moyer Close on June 23, 1909, and she died Sept. 2, 1956. He married Bernice Romary on July 7, 1959, and she died Feb. 19, 1975. One daughter, Helen Elizabeth Jennings, died in 1936. He also was preceded in death by one sister and two brothers.
Survivors include one son, Dana Close Jennings of Rapid City, S.D.; one daughter, Mrs. D.R. (Dorothy) Davis, 1015 State St.; two stepdaughters, Muriel Romary Bright of Carmichael, Calif., and Agnes Sours of Sacramento, Calif.; one stepson, John Romary of Topeka; II grandchildren and two step-grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.
Mr. Jennings was a lieutenant in the U.S. Army 35th Division during World War I. He was a member of the Olpe American Legion Post and Post 7957 of Veterans of Foreign in Emporia.
