Elizabeth Goff Markham, 86, of Big Island, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2008, at Autumn Care in Altavista. Born Wednesday, June 7, 1922, in Bedford County, she was a daughter of the late Ozie Goff and Mable Wilson Goff. She was a member of Tabernacle Church of God.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Norris Markham; one daughter, Janet Phelps; four brothers, Clave Goff, Hillard Goff, Buford Goff and Owen Goff; and two sisters, Emma Hensley and Fleta Wilson.

She is survived by three sons, William Lee Markham and wife, Leslie, of Lynchburg, and Freddie Markham and Robert Markham, both of Big Island; seven grandchildren, Latrina Markham, Jeffrey Markham and wife, Marie, Jennifer Miles and husband, James, Heather Phelps, Amanda Phelps, Shelby Markham and Waylon Markham; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Estelle Markham and Frances Wood; former husband, Harold Markham; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

The family would like to extend a special thank you for all the kindness and care from the staff at Autumn Care.

Memorial contributions may be made to Tabernacle Church of God, 1023 Jeb Stuart Place, Forest, VA 24551.

A celebration of Elizabeth's life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, 2008, at Tabernacle Church of God, with the Rev. Samuel F. Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Hunting Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
