Herman Fredrick Canody, known to his friends and family as Cubby or Chuck, died Saturday (Dec. 27, 2003), at his home in Montana.
He was the son of Eva and Grant Canody.
He is survived by his wife, Sandy; brothers, James, Samuel and Victor Lacy; sisters, Jane Grimmett and Hallie Godshalk and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Herman F. "Chuck" Canody died Saturday evening in St. James Healthcare.
He was born in Church Falls, Va., on Jan. 2, 1945, to Ira G. and Eva (Miller) Canody and was raised and educated there. He served his country with the Navy, including two tours of duty in Vietnam. Chuck was chief of operations for Asbury Enterprises, which operates the Ace Hardware Stores in Butte, Livingston, Anaconda and Corpus Christi, Texas. Chuck had worked for Ace Hardware Corporation for seven years and before that for True Value Hardware for 16 years.
He married his wife Sandra in Idaho Falls on Nov. 28, 1996, and she survives. Also surviving are his daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Kevin Brown of Fayetteville, N.C.; grandchildren, Morgan and Kacey Brown; brothers, Jimmy Canody of Boise, Idaho, and Vic Canody of Virginia; and sisters, Jane Grimmett of Washington and Allie of Virginia.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother.
Cremation has taken place in Butte. Private memorial services will be conducted. Memorials: St. Jude Children's Hospital.
