Col. Donald H. Hooten, USAF, Retired Col. Donald H. Hooten, USAF, Retired, 56, died June 4, 1985, in Austin, Texas. Survivors in addition to his wife, Dagmar, 1004 Ridgecrest, Salado, Texas, include his son, John, Anchorage, Alaska; two daughters, Holly and Sherry Hooten, Austin; a stepson, Milton Schott, Austin; and a brother, Larry Joe Hooten, Whitney, Texas. Colonel Hooten was a native of Dallas, and a 1950 graduate of Texas A&M University. He was commissioned in the USAF upon graduation from college, completed pilot's training and served over 28 years. He was a graduate of Air Command and Staff College, Army War College, and obtained a master's degree from George Washington University in public administration. He served staff hours in Tactical Air Command Headquarters, the Pentagon, and SHAPE Headquarters, Brussels, Belgium. His USAF career was primarily in tactical aviation. He flew a combat tour in F-86's in the Korean Conflict with the distinguished 4th Fighter Wing. He flew 270 combat missions in the F-100 in Vietnam where he commanded the 90th Tactical Fighter Squadron. His military decorations Include the Distinguished Flying Cross with an Oak Leaf cluster, the Air Medal with 10 clusters, Bronze Star, Legion of Merit and the Defense Superior Service Medal. Funeral services will be at the Wilke-Amey-Clay Funeral Home, Chapel of the Bells at 2620 South Congress, Austin, at 10:00 AM, Friday, June 7, 1985. Interment will be 1:45 PM, Friday, June 7, 1985, in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio. Memorial contributions may be made to the Scholarship Fund of the Capitol City A&M Club, PO Box 332, Austin, Texas 78767.
