Wilford "Fletch" L. Fletcher, Jr., aged 76 of New Castle, DE passed away Sunday, May 9, 2004, at home surrounded by his family.
A 5th-generation Delawarean, he was born February 26, 1928 in Wilmington. He graduated from Conrad High School and attended the Cranbrook School of Art in MI. Fletch proubly served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII, where he was stationed in Japan. Fletch retired from the Hagley Museum as the exhibits lab supervisor after over 30 years of service. He was the artistic director and creator of many of the exhibits at the museum, which depict the history of life along the Brandywine River. Fletch was an artist, craftsman, model maker and music lover. When Fletch wasn't painting, he was sailing or building and racing model boats.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Buna K. Fletcher; son, Ethan U. Fletcher of Claymont, DE; daughter, Andea F. LaCombe and her husband, Daniel, of Bear, DE; grandchildren, Daniel C. LaCombe, Jr. and Margot H. LaCombe; and sister, Betty Benson of Keiler, TX.
The funeral service will be held on Friday, Mary 14, 2004, at 11 am at the Gebhart Funeral Home, 531 Delaware St., New Castle, DE. Friends may call of the family at the funeral home on Friday morning beginning at 10 lam. Burial will be in the Riverview Gardens Cemetery in Wilmington, DE.
