She was born to George and Mabel (Heacock) Russell on July 2, 1918, in Salem, Ohio. She moved to Sebring in 1923 at the age of 4, moved back to Ohio in 1938 and returned to live in Sebring in 1987.
She was a graduate of the Class of 1936 at Sebring High School and was a homemaker.
Mrs. Merwin is survived by her daughters, Barbara Adams of Huntington Beach, Calif., and Jean Scaravilli, Lexington, Ky.; son, Paul H. Merwin, Jr., Camp Verde, Ariz.; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Merwin, and husband, Willis Gentile; sisters and brother, most recently her sister, Betty Harper Laird Atkinson, on March 23, 2008.
There will be a visitation with family and friends from 5 until 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2008, at Stephenson-Nelson Funeral Home in Sebring.
Services will be held in East Palestine, Ohio, at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Sebring Historical Society, 321 W. Center Ave., Sebring, FL 33870 will be appreciated.
