Funeral services for Reuben Earl Carter, age 70 of Bastrop, LA will be held at 2 PM Thursday December 20, 2007 at New Zion Baptist Church in Winnsboro with Brother Tommy Basco officiating. Services are under the direction of Gill First National Funeral Home of Winnsboro. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5-9PM at New Zion Baptist Church.

He was born on April 28, 1937 to Fred and Hattie Carter in Winnsboro and passed from this life at his home on December 18, 2007 after a brief illness.

Reuben grew up in the New Zion Church Community where he was baptized with many friends and cousins. He was a graduate of Winnsboro High School. His interests were hunting, fishing, and spending time with his many friends and his favorite companion, Little Bit.

Reuben was an Air Force Veteran serving his country from 1955 to 1959. He was employed at Cooper Truck Center for many years and previously Scott Truck and Tractor of Monroe, LA.

He is preceded in death by his parents; one brother: Ray Carter; one sister: Mattie Grace Sims both of Winnsboro

He is survived by his wife of 47 years: Barbara Ann Carter; two children: Richard Earl Carter and Carla Ann Frost; one brother: Fred Carter, Jr. and wife Anna; three sisters: Mrs. Bobbie Smith and husband Charles; Mrs. Patsy Simmons and husband Bill; Mrs. Betty Coughran; two grandchildren: Richard Chase Carter and Chelsea Jean Frost

Reuben leaves behind numerous special people including Mr. and Mrs. Ray Wallace of Bastrop, LA; nieces, nephews, relatives, and dear friends who loved and helped care for him and will miss him dearly.

Pallbearers will be nephews: Donnie Carter, Jeff Carter, Ronnie Dale Carter, Jimmy Ray Coughran, Dennis Sims, Gary Wayne Sims, Eric Smith, and Walter Ray Wallace

Honorary pallbearers will be: Phillip Clark, Darrell Graham, Dan Kifer, Lloyd Glen Robinson, Stanley Robinson, and John B. Talley

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the New Zion Baptist Church Cemetery Fund in c/o Mrs. Bobbie Smith, 610 New Zion RD Winnsboro, LA 71295 or a charitable contribution of your choice.
