Ms. Mary Green had bought the Lucas home at the corner of Strand and Fourth Streets in Santa Monica prior to marrying her first husband Dan Mooney. He was a former miner from Arizona who had acquired a good some of money. The couple lived in what was described as the Mooney Mansion until his untimely death by gunshot in 1885. Later, the widow Mooney married Col A.B. Hotchkiss, an attorney for the Southern Pacific Railroad. The two live in the same location until his death in 1905. Mary Green Mooney Hotchkiss later married Dr. Joseph Jauch and the couple moved away from Santa Monica. The home fell into disrepair and was thought to be haunted given the multiple deaths there. The Lucas mansion burned down in January 1903 while being occupied by her adopted son, T. Jeff White. Eventually after several reincarnations, the area was turned into Mary Hotchkiss Park.
